The Pantheon
The best-preserved building from ancient Rome — and, since 2023, no longer free.
Tickets
Entry now costs a small fee and requires a timed booking; Sundays and the first Sunday of the month have historically had free or reduced entry windows worth checking before you go.
What to look for
The oculus at the top of the dome is the building's only light source — and, with no glass covering it, rain falls straight through onto the floor, which slopes slightly to drain it.
Best time to visit
Right at opening. The Pantheon sits on a small, popular piazza and fills quickly once tour groups arrive mid-morning.
