Apps for visiting Rome

The handful of apps that actually earn space on your phone.

Navigation

Google Maps handles Rome well for walking and transit navigation. CityMapper offers slightly better integration with Rome's bus network and real-time disruption information — useful for specific bus routes in less touristy areas.

Public transport

Moovit is reliable for planning Rome bus and tram journeys with live departure times. The ATAC official app allows digital ticket purchase — useful for avoiding queues at machines, though the app has historically been inconsistent, so download before you need it.

Tickets & queues

CoopCulture is the official booking platform for the Colosseum and Roman Forum. The Vatican Museums have their own app. Timed-entry museums generally book better through their own official channels than through aggregators.

Food

TheFork (La Fourche in Italian) covers restaurant reservations across Rome. Google Maps reviews are a useful first filter — look for places with consistent Italian-language reviews rather than those reviewed primarily in English.
